HOLY WEEK SERVICES

Maundy Thursday Worship - March 28 at 6:30 pm: "Love one another as I have loved you." Jesus gives this new commandment as he celebrates the Last Supper with his disciples and washes their feet. A service of solemn observance of Christ’s last night before the cross.

Good Friday Seder Meal/Service - March 29 at 5:30 pm: We commemorate Good Friday with an adaptation of the seder meal at 5:30 pm, remembering our heritage of slavery and deliverance out of Egypt and comparing the death of Jesus on the Cross to the Passover. Please RSVP to the church office to reserve your spot.

Easter Sunday - March 31 at 9 am: He is Risen! Celebrate with us this Easter Sunday! Worship at 9 includes special music. Expanded, family-friendly seating. Kids activities and treats. Photo booth. Refreshments. All are welcome -- join us Easter morning as we celebrate Jesus' victory over death and claim the promise of new life in Christ. A day of hope, joy and love. Alleluia!

this is a home of strength. of joy. for jesus. for you.

Belvidere: First UMC is a 185-year-old church that was founded when Belvidere was settled. We moved to our current location in 2004 and are experiencing a new vitality in worship, fellowship and mission. A few years coming out of COVID and we are growing again, with almost half of our in-person congregation being new - and an online family greater in size than our in-house worship!

That life story marks us as a group of different perspectives and life experiences. We ground our belief and ministry in the Bible, believing that God’s Word is the sufficient rule both of faith and of practice. We affirm the Apostles’ and Nicene creeds as describing the Christian faith that we have received, but we do not recite them regularly. At a time when the UMC is experiencing division over LGBTQIA+ inclusion, we are of different opinions and refuse to be divided by our difference. We are united in the central matters of the Christian faith. John Wesley, founder of Methodism, once described this position, “in essentials, unity. In non-essentials diversity. In all things, charity and love.”

SPREADING THE WORD IN AN "ACTS 13 KIND OF WAY."

We believe that God is doing a new thing in real time, right here - that if we were told in advance, we would not believe. The power of God, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, is available to anyone who seeks it and decides they will follow Jesus. It’s a personal choice - you can take it or you can leave it - but we don’t want anyone to miss out on what God has for them.

We are significantly committed to ministry in our town of Belvidere and throughout Boone County. Our worship is informal, in person and streaming online, with praise songs and hymns and with a number of different leaders every week. Our growth is prodding us to explore additional worship options within and beyond our building. To maximize the opportunities for reaching others and sharing in God's love that He has for us. We invite you to contact our staff with your questions, or for information on our beliefs and ministry offerings.
